Partnerships with sister organizations are crucial for Blue Door Shelters.

We work closely with organizations across sectors to ensure that the right information and options are available for our residents right here at our shelters.  We recognize that it can be a daunting task to seek out relevant supports when so many competing priorities lie ahead.  BDS is grateful for strong partnerships with community partners and this enables in-house support at all three shelters.  These connections made at the shelter continue to help build resilience once the individuals leave the shelter.  Community agencies who offer consistent weekly and monthly services on site to our residents include:

  • Addiction Services of York Region to provide treatment options and resources
  • Birthday Angels providing birthday parties for children living at Leeder Place Family Shelter
  • Canadian Mental Health Association (including MOBYSS youth walk-in clinic) to provide clinical mental health support
  • Citizens for Affordable Housing (Identification clinic) helps to replace lost identifications cards at no cost to homeless individuals
  • Community Legal Clinic of York Region provide information and legal support on various topics, including landlord-tenant issues
  • EMS Paramedics to provide health assessments
  • JVS Employment Services to support employment searches
  • LOFT Crosslinks Street Outreach and Services Network to help with basic needs and peer support
  • MCIS Language Services to support the diverse language needs of our residents
  • York Region Centre for Community Safety

Our Partners Say

“I feel privileged to connect with such awesome staff and residents. We are learning together and often I learn the most from YOU! Best of wishes on your journeys…”
– Shirley Woods, CMHA York and South Simcoe

Shirley led an interactive course called Living Life to the Full at Leeder Place, family shelters. In eight fun, friendly 90-minute sessions, Living Life to the Full helps people make a difference in their lives. Each session is moderated by a trained facilitator and includes a booklet, handouts, exercises and discussions.
