Blue Door Shelters is the largest shelter provider in York Region serving homeless populations for 30 years.  The truth is that homelessness can happen to anyone.  With three shelters serving youth, men, women, families, and children, we have a rich history of supporting those who are often invisible in our communities. Blue Door Shelters is grateful for all the inspiring support we receive from local businesses and community members.  All proceeds provide critical funding for lifesaving services, including basic needs, housing supports, transportation needs, and wellness programs.  Your gift allows people to live their lives with dignity, autonomy and self determination.  Together, we open doors to a better future for many more of our neighbours.  Please join us in our journey to end homelessness in our Region! Blue Door Shelters has benefited from support of major donors including Home Depot Foundation and ITS Dispatch.

Blue Door Shelters received a generous donation from Internet Truck Stop-ITS Dispatch. The Ackerman family, owners of ITS, contacted the shelter with concern for the safety of BDS clients when they noticed a pattern of clients walking Highway 11 at night. After a meeting with the Office Manager and Executive Assistant, they have agreed to donate funds to enable a daily taxi run from the Go Bus Terminal in Newmarket to Porter Place and Leeder Place at 9:30 pm so that residents do not walk on the highway at night. This gift of transportation has a direct, positive impact on the ability of our clients to access healthcare, search for housing, visit friends etc.

Volunteers from Internet Truck Stop-ITS Dispatch organized all the toy donations from community members into our own ‘BDS Toy Shop’. Our clients are welcomed into the shop to choose the gifts for the children in their lives. ITS Dispatch has also sponsored Thanksgiving at our shelters and funded funding a taxi shuttle which provided essentials transportation for our clients.

Blue Door Shelters benefits from proceeds of reoccurring sessions Newmarket Gaming Centre – Bingo World. Proceeds support our York Region Youth Shelters. Over 30 Local Community Charities are supported by the Newmarket Bingo World.
